A Note from Dr. Marcos Eguiguren, GABV executive director

As we are approaching our #BankingOnValues Day, this year marked on November 2, I wish to express my gratitude to all of you out there who recognized the importance of choosing a better way of banking. With all your support and all the efforts of our members, partners, and 48+ thousand co-workers around the world, we are truly making a positive change in the world of finances. At this time, I want to put more focus on our co-workers around the world and make sure they realize that their hard work is not unnoticed, that their local efforts are resonating all around the world and their actions are serving as an inspiration to many others to do better for people and planet.

I wish to personally thank you for all your hard work you do every day to support the network of like-minded, values-oriented banks around the world belonging to the Global Alliance for Banking on Values. Every day, we jointly show examples of how business can be done in a different way that has no impact on the environment and supports the development of communities worldwide.

I am happy to see that all our members are persisting in doing business this way. At times this is not easy, but luckily with the support of each other, we manage – and we go even further. As you may already know, GABV is a network of banking leaders from around the world committed to advancing positive change in the banking sector. Our collective goal is to change the banking system so that it is more transparent, supports economic, social and environmental sustainability, and is composed of a diverse range of banking institutions serving the real economy.

Since the day the Global Alliance for Banking on Values was founded in 2009, we have been growing steadily, with banks, banking cooperatives and credit unions, microfinance institutions and community development banks joining from many parts of the world. At the moment, there are 46 financial institutions from more than 30 countries around the world belonging to this unique values-based family. Each member has a very interesting story to tell. Please take a moment and explore the inspiring work our colleagues are doing around the world http://www.gabv.org/the-impact/our-bank-stories.

We still are not close to achieving our goal – this is a long and hard way, but being optimistic, investing in our people, and being inspired by each other will help us succeed. Only by working together we can influence the change we want to see.

Yours,
Marcos
